Cryptocurrencies for classified information: Israeli prosecutors have revealed a spy who documented strategic objects for Iran

The young man, who was detained by the police back in March, allegedly photographed and documented key facilities in the country for thousands of dollars paid in cryptocurrencies. According to investigators, he continued to work with an Iranian agent during the June 2025 war.

Israeli prosecutors on Friday charged a 21-year-old man from Jerusalem who allegedly performed tasks for a person from Iran for a financial reward. TASR informs about it according to the news portal The Times of Israel (TOI).

  • In March, the Israeli police detained a 21-year-old man from Jerusalem.
  • The man was said to be running errands for a person from Iran.
  • He received payments in cryptocurrency for documenting strategic Israeli facilities.
  • He also worked for an Iranian agent during the 12-day Iran-Israeli war.

He documented strategic facilities

The man was detained by police in March on suspicion of gathering intelligence for an Iranian agent. Prosecutors allege that while looking for a job, he approached an Iranian man nicknamed “Michael” who asked him to perform various tasks, such as documenting and photographing facilities in Israel. He allegedly received thousands of dollars for this activity, which were transferred to him in cryptocurrency.

The Jerusalemite also worked for the Iranian in June 2025 during the 12-day war between Iran and Israel.

Multiple felony charges

According to the prosecution, the man initially did not realize that ‘Michael’ was an Iranian agent, but worked for him even after he found out who he really was, reports TOI.

The Jerusalem Post wrote that the prosecutor’s office is asking the court to order the accused to be detained until the end of the trial. The man is accused of several crimes, including contact with a foreign agent and providing information to the enemy.

In March, the Israeli police detained a 26-year-old military reservist, who was also from Jerusalem, on suspicion of passing on secret information to Iran.
