Author Cinema in Caldas da Rainha

Author Cinema in Caldas da Rainha

The 2nd edition of iNTERVALOS – Meeting and Cinema Exhibition in Caldas da Rainha, takes place from April 16th to 18th, at the Cultural and Congress Center.

The director, Mário Branquinho was a guest at the poster.

For three days, the city becomes a “cinephile retreat”, says the director of iNTERVALOS. It is intended to create moments of sharing between film professionals and the public with open dialogue for assistance. Currently, there are no commercial offices in Caldas da Rainha. The Cinema Meeting and Exhibition does not want to replace itself, but to fill the gap, with regard to author cinema.

“Much more needs to be done for Portuguese cinema. It needs mediation mechanisms.”

In the “In dialogue with” sessions, filmmakers choose films from other directors that relate to your own films.

This year, the honor goes to Manuela Serra. The filmmaker is the author of a single work: “The Movement of Things” from 1979, which won several awards at festivals but only had its commercial premiere in 2021. iNTERVALOS also shows “35 Years Later, The Movement of Things”, the documentary by Mário Fernandes, José Oliveira and Marta Ramos, which follows the return of filmmaker Manuela Serra to Lanheses, in 2015.

The Cinema Meeting invited MUTIM – Women Workers of Moving Images who edited the “Manual of Good Practices for Cinema and Audiovisual in Portugal”. The book addresses the different forms of harassment.
