Students from Torres Vedras create humanoid robot: 'Arttech' was born to teach about culture and art

Students from the São Gonçalo School Group, in Torres Vedras, created two robots to encourage people to be more creative. The robotics program at these schools, with students aged 6 and over, has already won several national and international awards.

‘Arttech’ is a humanoid robot with a screen on its belly and which answers any question about the world of arts. The objective is to encourage creativity and help discover the potentiall artist in everyone.

“Our idea was to create a robot that could teach about culture, about art, about fashion to people of any age, children, adults, teenagers”, says Sophia Rocha, creator of Arttech.

“He [robô] There’s an LCD where we can make various drawings and it can also help give us ideas for drawings”, he further explains.

‘Arttech’ was developed by students from the Robotics Club of the São Gonçalo School Group, in Torres Vedras. It was the first one they developed with using artificial intelligence.

But students have already created several other robots and continue to invent new products with other functions.

“They can play games that allow them to create art from scratch, but inspired by artists and the colors they use most, or deconstruct works of art into several pieces and reassemble”, explains Francisco Santos, another of the students who created the project.

The Torres Vedras Robotics Club has won several national and international awardssince it was founded almost 20 years ago.

Here, contact with robotics starts early. From the youngest to the oldest, the club brings together students of various ages, mEven those who have already left the group remain linked to the project.

“For us it is always a victory, seeing these students grow, seeing these students succeed in the job market for us makes us value the work we do here. This is the main award we can have”, says Jaime Rei, professor and coordinator of Robotics.

The next competition is in May, in Barreiro. The objective is to qualify for the World Robotics Olympics, which will be held at the end of the year in Puerto Rico.
