José Matos Fernandes, former president of the General Assembly of Porto, has died

Former Porto director José Manuel Matos Fernandes, who held the position of president of the General Assembly Board (MAG) of the club and SAD, died at the age of 85.

Former FC Porto director José Manuel Matos Fernandes, who held the position of president of the General Assembly Board (MAG) of the club and SAD, died at the age of 85, announced the leader of the I Football League.

“FC Porto received with great consternation the news of the death of José Manuel Matos Fernandes, former president of the club’s MAG distinguished with two Golden Dragons”, can be read in the condolence note published on the ‘blues and whites’ website.

O club highlighted the judge’s “very close connection” to FC Porto“first as a member and then as a manager”, having been awarded the club’s ‘Fanter of the Year’ awards in 2008 and ‘Manager of the Year’ in 2018.

Em January 2020, Matos Fernandes ended his institutional participation in FC Porto.

Father of João Pedro Matos Fernandes, Minister of the Environment (2015-2018) and of the Environment and Energy Transition (2018-2022) in the 21st and 22nd Constitutional Governments, was a judge at the Porto Court of Appeal and, in 1996, was appointed advisor judge at the Supreme Court of Justice.
