The Municipality of Tavira is promoting a set of food literacy initiatives aimed at the educational community, covering pre-school education and the 1st, 2nd and 3rd cycles of basic education.
In a territory recognized as a Representative Community of the Mediterranean Diet, these actions play an important role in the transmission of knowledge, values and practices associated with this cultural heritage.
Interactive activities encourage healthy habits
The initiatives have been developed using dynamic and participatory methodologies, including activities such as “Mediterranean Bingo”, held at the Municipal Market, as well as sessions on the importance of breakfast, the Mediterranean Food Wheel, the Nutritional Rainbow and the “From Earth to Plate” route.
These actions seek to encourage, from childhood, the adoption of more balanced and conscious eating habits.
At the same time, sessions aimed at the senior population were promoted, focusing on proverbs linked to food, with the aim of stimulating reflection on the principles of the Mediterranean Diet and its application in everyday life.
The initiatives aim to raise awareness about the importance of a balanced and sustainable diet, promote knowledge about the origin of food, encourage informed choices and value the Mediterranean Diet as cultural heritage.
With these actions, it reinforces its commitment to “education, health and quality of life of the population, contributing to the formation of more informed, aware and responsible citizens”.
