The defeat interrupts Tricolor’s streak of three unbeaten games and leaves the São Paulo team at 20 points
On an afternoon of little inspiration in Salvador, São Paulo was beaten by Vitória, 2-0at Barradão, in a match valid for the 11th round of the Brasileirão. The Tricolor team felt the absence of important players e produced little against the Bahian rival this Saturday (11). The São Paulo team still had a player sent off at the start of the second half and it became even more exposed after bad stirs coach Roger Machado. Cacá and Ramon scored the goals of the match.
With the defeat, São Paulo interrupts a streak of three unbeaten games, park at 20 points and miss the chance to touch Palmeiras in the leadership of the Brasileirão. The Tricolor team returns to the field on Tuesday (14) to face the Chileans of O’Higgins, in the Copa Sudamericana. On Saturday (18), they face Vasco, in Rio, in the Brasileirão.
Vitória reached 14 points and moves away from the relegation zone. The Bahians’ next commitment in the Brazilian Championship will be next Saturday, again at home, against Corinthians.
Despite being missing some of its main players (Lucas Moura, Luciano, Pablo Maia, Bobadilla and Calleri), São Paulo tried to adopt a leading role in Barradão. Roger Machado’s team spent longer in possession of the ball and sought to mark Vitória in the defense field to suffocate the opponent. The Tricolor team took danger in submissions by Artur, inside the area, and Marcos Antônio, in a long-distance shot.
Vitória found a lot difficulty in overcoming the São Paulo mark and arrive in numerical superiority to the attack to bring danger to goalkeeper Rafael’s goal. When the Bahian team hit a deep pass behind the defense, the referee signaled offside. Upon recovering the ball, São Paulo sought accelerate with stretched ends, but Artur and Ferreira were not very effective.
With the truncated gamethe dead ball made the difference. At 35 minutes of the first half, Cacá took advantage of the deflection after a free kick to send it into the back of the net and open the scoring for Vitória. After the goal, São Paulo launched an attack and got scared with a shot from André Silva, who was stopped by a good save from Lucas Arcanjo, and a cross shot from Artur, who went ahead of Cauly in the small area.
São Paulo returned from the break with the aim to maintain an intense pace to seek a draw, but coach Roger Machado needed to review his plan at the beginning of the second half after the lateral Lucas Ramon being expelled for landing a kick to Matheuzinho’s face. With one less player, a Tricolor team was exposed and Vitória had the chance to expand at the beginning of the second stage, but missed counterattacks.
Even after expulsion, São Paulo continued to have more possession of the ballbut lost creativity after the departure of Cauly, sacrificed to make way for full-back Cédric in the rebuilding of the defense line. Dangerous, Vitória almost did not increase the advantage with a free kick from Erick, which hit the post.
Roger made changes to keep the team offensive. The coach added speed options, such as Tapia and Tetê, and went all or nothing by giving up midfielder Danielzinho to replace young Lucca, another striker. São Paulo paid the price for exposing itself with one less player and saw the Vitória extends in the 37th minute with Ramonin a great table from foot to foot until the left-back receives a free kick in the area to define the match.
