Negotiations with Iran ended without reaching an agreement: the US allegedly had unreasonable demands

Negotiations between Iran and the US to end the war in the Middle East have failed due to the unreasonable demands of the United States, Iranian state television said on Sunday, quoted by AFP, writes TASR. “The Iranian delegation (in Islamabad) negotiated intensively and continuously for 21 hours to protect the national interests of the Iranian people. Despite various initiatives on its part, unreasonable demands from the US side prevented progress in the negotiations.

Negotiations are therefore over,” said Iran’s IRIB state television in a post on the Telegram platform. US Vice President JD Vance announced in Islamabad on Sunday that negotiations with Iran had ended after 21 hours without reaching an agreement. The American delegation went on a trip to the USA. Vance refused to specify the details of the negotiations with Iran. However, he emphasized that the key issue for them is Iran’s nuclear program. He clarified that one of the conditions of the United States is that Iran agrees to give up its pursuit of a nuclear weapon.

According to Vance, the United States needs a “firm commitment” from Iran on this matter. He added that Tehran had refused to accept him at this point in the negotiations. He also indicated that Iran was still giving time to consider the United States’ offer. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Bakayi said before Vance’s announcement that the success of peace talks between the United States and Iran depended on Washington avoiding “excessive demands” and “illegal requests.”

“The success of this diplomatic process depends on the seriousness and good faith of the opposing side, on refraining from excessive demands and illegal requests, and on accepting Iran’s legitimate rights and interests,” spokesman Esmail Bakaji wrote in a post on the X network, AFP reported. A spokesman for the Iranian ministry added that both sides on Saturday they discussed a range of issues including “the Strait of Hormuz, the nuclear program, war reparations, the lifting of sanctions and a complete end to the war against Iran.”

The negotiations in Pakistan took place during a two-week ceasefire that was declared on Tuesday. They had a tripartite format – they were also held with the participation of Pakistan as a mediator.
