The senator Jorge Seif (PL-SC) announced this Monday (13) that opposition parliamentarians filed with the United States Embassy in Brasilia request to prioritize analysis of the political asylum request of former federal deputy Alexandre Ramagem. Cabo Gilberto announced that the opposition asked the Ministry of Justice and Public Security (MPSP) for official information about the extradition process of Ramagem. The deputy also said that the president of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), Edson Fachin, was asked to the annulment of the conviction of the former director of Abin.

In September 2025, the First Panel of the STF sentenced Alexandre Ramagem to 16 years in prison for involvement in the coup d’état plan. Two months later, minister Alexandre de Moraes ordered the preventive arrest of the former director of Abin and the other members of “nucleus 1” of the coup plot.

In December 2025, the magistrate ordered the Judiciary Secretariat to send the necessary documents to the MPSP to formalize the extradition request of Ramagem. In the same month, the ministry informed the STF that it requested the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to forwarding the extradition request of the former director of Abin to the United States authorities.

With the arrest in the United States, the Federal Police (PF) hopes that Ramagem is extradited or that he can be picked up in the country. Because the former director of Abin requested asylum, he cannot be expelled immediately.
