Holocaust survivors return to Auschwitz to honor those who did not return

Holocaust survivors from several countries gathered this Tuesday at ‘March of the Living’an annual initiative held in the former concentration camp of Auschwitz, Poland.

It is event marks Holocaust Remembrance Day in the Jewish calendar and pays tribute to the approximately six million Jews killed by Nazi Germany during the Second World War.

This year, around 50 survivors participated in the some of whom traveled from Israel despite the logistical difficulties associated with airspace restrictions caused by the conflict with Iran.

O route started in Auschwitz and ended in Birkenauabout three kilometers away, where thousands of Jews were taken and murdered in gas chambers.

A The initiative also included the presence of survivors of recent anti-Semitic attacksincluding the attack last December during a Hanukkah celebration on Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia.

In your 38th editiona ‘March of the Living’ gathered thousands of participants, including Holocaust survivors, Jewish students, community leaders and political leaders.
