On Sunday, April 12, the political show Na telo was really stuffy. In the Markíza television studio, the chairman of the SNS Andrej Danko and the member of the National People’s Republic of the Slovak Republic for the club Slovakia – For the People Gábor Grendel met. It’s common for politicians to get into each other’s throats during a debate, but this time the presenter Karolína Lacová also caught it.
The show covered the government, economic measures, Hungarian elections and broader foreign policy positions. Danek’s pressure was lifted when the presenter reminded him of his earlier statement about Viktor Orbán from 2012.
“Today, no one doubts that Orbán is the great dictator of Eastern Europe, that he only lies to his people and leads them to destruction. What is happening in Hungary has absolutely no parallel,” quoted the leader of the nationalists, Lacová.
Danko first said that he did not know who said it. Subsequently he explained that the situation and his opinion have changed over the past years. Later, they returned to the aforementioned statement, and the presenter noted that the politician had forgotten his own words. “But don’t make me… I’ll pull out ten words you won’t remember. You’ve asked me to come here X times, so be serious,” asked the moderator of the vice president of the SR SR.
In response, Lacová emphasized that she does not blame him. “But I will reproach you for the manner of this session. And I tell you, don’t mince words.” continued Danko. “You won’t give me space to talk about laws for Slovaks,” he was angry, but the presenter stopped him, saying that he had been talking until then.
“Free you are smiling. You are doing shallow reporting,” he splashed in her face live. “I only like Na nože on Markíza. Television newspapers and news are not of a high standard,” declared Danko.
