The number of victims of Wednesday’s shooting at a high school in the Turkish province of Kahramanmaras has risen to nine. announced the Ministry of the Interior. Turkish authorities initially reported four dead, including the shooter. The agencies AP and AFP reported about it, writes TASR.
“We regret to report a death toll of nine… and 13 injured. Six of them are currently in the intensive care unit, of which three are in critical condition,” Turkish Interior Minister Mustafa Ciftci said in a statement.
According to AP, the attacker was a 14-year-old boy. He came to school armed with weapons that probably belonged to his father – a former policeman – said provincial governor Mükerrem Ünlüer. The shooter had a total of five firearms and seven magazines with him. The motive for the attack was not immediately known. According to AP, it remains unclear whether the shooter was killed by the police or committed suicide.
Although school shootings have been rare in Turkey in the past, this is the second such incident in the past two days. At least 16 people were injured on Tuesday by a former student who opened fire in a high school in the town of Siverek in Sanliurfa province and then committed suicide.
