Bernardo Silva confirms departure from Manchester City at the end of the season

Portuguese international footballer Bernardo Silva confirmed this Thursday that he will leave Manchester City at the end of the season, the club that gave him more than he ever expected.

In a few months it will be time to say goodbye to the city in which we won so much as a football club, but also where I started my marriage and my family”, wrote Bernardo Silva, on social media.

Trained at Benfica, Bernardo Silva, 31, arrived at Manchester City in 2017/18, after three seasons at Monaco, winning, among other titles, a Champions League and six English Leagues.

“When I arrived nine years ago, I was following the dream of a little boy, who wanted to be successful in life and wanted to achieve great things. This city and this club gave me much more than that, much more than I ever expected. What we won and achieved together will forever be in my heart,” the text reads.

Bernardo Silva also thanked the fans, “for their unconditional support”, something he will never forget, guaranteeing that he will be a Manchester City fan “for life”.

“To the club, Pep [Guardiola] the team and all my teammates over these nine years, thank you for all the memories and for allowing me to be part of this journey for so long. The environment we created each day at the training camp made me feel at home and part of a big family. Let’s enjoy these last few weeks and fight for everything this season can bring us”, he concluded.

In addition to the titles with the ‘citizens’, Bernardo Silva also won a Portuguese First League, a Portuguese Cup and a League Cup with Benfica, despite being used very little — a reserve game used in each of the competitions –, also winning a French League.

With 107 caps for Portugal, in which he scored 14 goals, the midfielder won two Nations Leagues.
