City Hall accuses the federal government of blocking the expansion of the Blue Belt and says that the lack of approval prevents the delivery of 80 km of new exclusive corridors for motorcycles in the city.
The National Secretariat denies this and states that the city hall must first correct flaws in reports sent to the Ministry of Transport.
The management of (MDB) states that it sends quarterly reports on each section in operation, and that, despite complying with all requirements, it has not received any feedback from Senatran to continue with the implementation of the signaling.
According to the city hall, 46 reports have already been presented, in addition to a balance delivered in December 2025. It says that the Lula government stopped authorizing stretches of blue belt in March 2024, when that year’s municipal campaign began. Until that moment, 28 sections had been released.
The city hall states that it is working on another consolidated report, to be presented by April 30th. This document will be essential for the federal agency to evaluate the results and allow the project to be extended.
The national secretary of Traffic, Adrualdo Catão, refutes the accusations and says that there are several technical issues to be clarified, in addition to new security solutions to guarantee the continuity of the project.
To the Panel, he said that the reports are flawed and, therefore, Senatran gave a new deadline for the city hall to send the final conclusion with the technical analysis of the study. The agency says it is concerned about the number of traffic deaths.
“This information is essential to allow a safe and responsible evaluation by Senatran. From there, the secretariat will be able to evaluate the progress of the project, verify the effectiveness of the experimental signaling and decide, based on technical criteria, on the feasibility of the measure”, said Adrualdo.
The federal government on an experimental basis at the end of May.
