Cleaning – some people love it, others hate it. No matter what your approach, weekly cleaning has its costs. Both in terms of detergents and technical aids in the form of cloths or mops, as well as the time spent running around the apartment with a rag.
How much do apartment cleaning cost?
Just a dozen or so years ago, household cleaning was done almost exclusively by oneself. Today, they are increasingly included in economic calculations, because some people use cleaning services, and others simply count how much they spend on chemicals and equipment. It turns out that this is a real cost that can weigh heavily on the budget on a monthly basis.
In 2026, cleaning rates are significantly higher than just a few years ago. A private cleaner usually earns from PLN 30 to PLN 45 per hour, while cleaning companies charge PLN 45 to even PLN 70 per hour. Taking an average, it can be assumed that an hour of cleaning costs approximately PLN 40-50.
This means that regular use of such services quickly becomes financially significant. If someone orders cleaning for, for example, four hours a week, then at a rate of PLN 45 per hour, it amounts to approximately PLN 180 per week. This amounts to approximately PLN 720 per month. There are often additional costs of cleaning products or travel.
On the other hand, many people treat cleaning as a source of income. If you work on your own and earn PLN 40 per hour, an eight-hour working day gives you approximately PLN 320. In a month, assuming 20 days of work, it is up to PLN 6,400. If the rates are higher, at PLN 50 per hour, monthly earnings may reach up to PLN 8,000 gross. Of course, you have to subtract the costs of commuting, possible contributions and the purchase of cleaning products.
Basic window cleaner costs about PLN 10-15 per bottle, toilet fluid costs around PLN 12-18, kitchen products from PLN 12 to 20, and bathroom products from PLN 15 to 25. In practice, the monthly cost of such detergents in an average home ranges from approximately PLN 50 to PLN 100, and with greater cleaning intensity it may be even higher.
In addition, there are disposable ones. A mop usually costs from PLN 30 to PLN 100, a bucket or bowl from PLN 15 to PLN 40, and a set of cloths from PLN 10 to PLN 30. In total, you need to spend from about PLN 55 to even PLN 170 to start. If you add a vacuum cleaner, which costs from PLN 300 to PLN 1,000, the cost of entering “home cleaning” becomes even higher, although it is an expense spread over years.
In practice, this means that home cleaning has two faces. We either pay for them directly, using cleaning services, which with regular cleaning can mean up to PLN 800 per month, or we do them ourselves, investing in chemicals and equipment and, above all, our own time.
One thing is certain – a clean home has never been free. The only thing that has changed is whether we pay for it with money or with our own free time.
