The Speaker of the Iranian Parliament reports progress in negotiations with the US to end the war. However, fundamental points remain disputed and an agreement is still in sight.
Progress has been made in the negotiations with the United States to end the war, the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Baker Kalibaf, said on Saturday evening. However, he added that the parties are still far from an agreement. TASR writes about it based on a report by the AFP agency.
- The Speaker of the Iranian Parliament acknowledged progress in negotiations with the United States.
- At the same time, Kálibáf declared that the contracting parties are still far from an agreement.
- The negotiations run into many differences and some fundamental points of contention remain.
“We are still far from the final conversation,” he said in a televised address. “We have made progress in the negotiations, but there are many differences and some fundamental points remain,” said Kalibaf, who is also one of Iran’s negotiators in talks aimed at ending the war.
The truce is about to expire
The two-week ceasefire is set to expire on Wednesday unless extended.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump said there were “very good talks” with Iran, but warned Tehran not to try to “blackmail” the United States.
Date of further negotiations unknown
According to Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Khatibzadeh, no date has yet been set for the next round of talks between the US and Iran, although Trump said on Friday that the talks could take place as early as this weekend.
