O Palm trees played practically the entire second half against Athletico-PRthis Sunday (19), with one less manafter Murilo being expelled even after two minutes, but managed to win 1-0 at Allianz Parque. THE goal was scored by Gustavo Gómez still in the first stage of the match valid for the 12th round of the Brasileirão.

The result maintains the team led by Abel Ferreira — who was once again not on the bench because he is serving a long suspension of seven games — isolated in the lead, with 29 points. Os athletics are in sixth, with 19.

Athletico well tried to be aggressive in the opening minutes of the match and forced a good save from Carlos Miguel on Viveros’s shot. It didn’t last long the initiative of the athletes, who soon found themselves dominated by a Palmeiras team that was not the most creativebut it compensated with the usual tactical application.

Effective in reacting after ball losses in attack, Palmeiras always recovered with speedno wonder he was with more than 60% possession during the first half. In this way, it barely allowed theOpponents were able to pass the midfield to attempt attacks. Carlos Miguel was no longer threatened.

There was a lack of better performances from the more articulate and acute players in the midfield, especially Andreas Pereira and Arias. Although more participative than the other two, Allan also did not show his best features. The goal came from a cross that Gómez was unable to head. after losing the tackle, but the ball was left for him to shoot firmly into the net.

The safe and calm first half generated the expectation that the final stage would follow a similar plot. It was not possible, however, to continue with the same atmosphere, as Murillo ended up being sent off after receiving his third yellow card for a foul committed on Viveros, when the clock still showed just two minutes of the ball rolling.

Even though the expulsion added doses of tension to the match for the Alviverde side, the suffering with one less man was less than expectedespecially because the home team defended very well and prevented Athletico from applying constant pressure. Only in the final minutes, the team from Paraná managed to create more dangerous situations and he even had a penalty awarded, which was canceled after a review by the video referee.
