President criticized ‘abuse’ of the American government, which invited the Federal Police officer to leave the country; he was involved in the arrest of the former federal deputy

Lula cites ‘reciprocity’ after US expel delegate involved in Ramagem’s arrest

President Lula (PT) stated this Tuesday (21) that he can use “reciprocity” against an American in Brazil, when commenting on the case in the USA.

“I was informed this morning, I think that if there was American abuse towards our police officer, we are going to do reciprocity with his in Brazil”, said Lula in Hannover, Germany, in a conversation with the press.

“We want things to happen as correctly as possible, but we cannot accept this interference and this abuse of authority that some American people want to have in relation to Brazil”, continued the president.

On Monday (20), the Federal Police (PF) delegate Marcelo Ivo de Carvalho was asked to leave the United Statess after acting in Ramagem prison last week. The US State Department’s Office for the Western Hemisphere confirmed the information in X.

No foreigner has the right to manipulate our immigration system to simultaneously circumvent formal extradition requests and extend political persecution to United States territory. Today, we ask that the Brazilian authority in question leaves our country for having tried to do exactly that”, he informed.

Marcelo Ivo was a PF liaison officer with the US Immigration and Customs Service (ICE).

A PF had already informed that the delegate was in the USA on an official mission to collaborate with American authorities. Ivo’s expulsion from the North American country took place without the exact reasons being given.

Ramagem Prison

Alexandre Ramagem by the Immigration and Customs Control Service (ICE) on April 13th. ICE confirmed the detention. He is a fugitive from Brazilian justice.

Ramagem was sentenced to 16 years in prison for attempted coup d’état by the Federal Supreme Court (STF). He was detained in the Orlando region, Florida. Because he requested asylum in the country, he cannot be extradited immediately. In a statement, the Federal Police confirmed the arrest and stated that the arrest took place in cooperation with US law enforcement authorities.

Finally, the former deputy stated that he has “nothing to hide” and criticized the PF. “Our Federal Police of the past, with so much credibility, became a police force for general director Andrei Rodrigues,” said Ramagem.
