US President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that the United States is extending the ceasefire with Iran at the request of Pakistan. According to him, the aim is to give Tehran more time to submit a unified proposal for negotiations. At the same time, he added that the US will continue to block Iranian portsinforms TASR.
Trump said he had been asked by Pakistan, led by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, to extend the ceasefire until the “severely fragmented” Iranian government came up with a unified proposal. “I have ordered our military to continue the blockade and in all other respects remain ready and able to act, and therefore I will extend the ceasefire until their (Iranian) proposal is presented and the negotiations are concluded, one way or the other.” he wrote on his social network Truth Social. He gave no timeline in the post.
BThe US blockade of Iranian ports continues. Tehran considers it an act of war, which can represent a significant obstacle for further negotiations, the BBC reported. The announcement came as talks to end the US-Iran war look uncertain, with a two-week ceasefire set to expire on Wednesday. The White House earlier suspended an expected trip by Vice President JD Vance to Islamabad, Pakistan, for a second round of talks, as Tehran – at least for now – rejected further peace talks.
