Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday thanked United States President Donald Trump for having accepted the request to extend the ceasefire with Iran in order to allow more time for diplomatic negotiations to take place.

In a post on X, Sharif said he hoped that “both sides will continue to observe the ceasefire and can conclude a comprehensive peace agreement during second round of talks scheduled in Islamabad for a permanent end to the conflict”, which still does not have a defined date after the Iranians withdrew from participating in the meetings that would take place this week.

Earlier, Trump said he had accepted the extension of the ceasefireat the request of Pakistan, in a post on the social network Truth Social. The naval blockade of Iranian ports, however, remains in force, said the American president. The action has been considered an “act of war” that violates the ceasefire by Iran.
