Prepare your heart: the new film “The Lawyer of God”, based on the work of Zíbia Gasparetto, arrives with the far from simple mission of transforming one of the most complex universes of spiritist literature into a cinematic experience engaging and, by all indications, deeply emotional.
Starring Nicolas Prattes, This spiritual suspense drama has as its guiding thread justice, that of men and that of other planes. Directed by Wagner de Assis ( Nosso Lar 1 and 2 ), the film brings together actors from different generations such as Danilo Mesquita, Lorena Comparato, Leticia Braga, Lucas Letto, Beth Goulart, Augusto Madeira, Eucir de Souza, Henri Pagnoncelli and Gisele Fróes. Produced by Cinética Filmes, co-produced by Sony Pictures International Productions and co-distributed by Sony Pictures and Film Connection, the work tells a story of love and suspense, which involves crimes from the past and present.
The production delves into universal themes such as divine justice, family relationships and past livescreating a bridge between the spiritual world and the earthly one. As highlighted by one of those involved in the project, the adaptation required courage: “you need to have a certain amount of courage to make some decisions”, says Nicolas Prattes, the film’s protagonist.
The film premiered in theaters on the 16th.
Intense conflicts and striking characters
The plot follows characters with similar goals, but completely different trajectories, which generates constant tension throughout the story. One of the actors sums up this dynamic well: “they are two characters who want very similar things, have similar goals, but each chooses a path to take”, says Danilo Mesquita.
This contrast not only drives the central conflict but also deepens the emotional side of the film, especially when family issues and past traumas come into play. There is also a strong element of mystery and identity, as another excerpt explains: “he is a guy who is searching for his own story, to know who he is”, says Danilo.
Spirituality without labels
One of the most interesting points of the production is the way it approaches spirituality. Far from being a traditional religious film, “God’s Advocate” focuses on a broader and more accessible approach: “the film shows that you can even be distant from religion and live with that essence”, said the director.
The narrative proposes reflections on justice, choices and free will, highlighting that many situations in life can have roots in past experiences. “Our biggest choices will be made in the here and now”, reinforces Wagner de Assis, director of the film, bringing a philosophical tone that should connect with different audiences.
Emotion and identification
With complex family relationships, intense love and moral dilemmas, the film promises to touch the audience on different levels. There are stories of toxic relationships, reconciliations and even exciting reversals, such as when “the daughter ends up protecting her mother”, says Beth Goulart about one of the moments that should mark the audience.
In the end, “God’s Advocate” positions itself as more than a spiritual drama: is a film about choices, consequences and personal evolution. Or, as Lorena Comparato sums it up: “it’s an exciting film for everyone”.
Wagner also takes the opportunity to analyze divine and earthly justice.
“I have no doubt whatsoever that people who subjugate the justice of men, because it is flawed and imperfect like men, and that one of the things we see is the evolution of society, the capacity for the economic application of its justice. And we are learning, and that is what laws are for, so that we learn to regulate ourselves in an increasingly better way”, he says.
“But when we fail, I have no doubt that something fixes it, and it really fixes it, and it does. We will answer for all our actions, whether we like it or not. In fact, this phrase is in the book, and it is a phrase that Chico Xavier used a lot. André Luiz, in fact, used it, and Chico used it, our actions will be our lawyers. And then I add, whether they are defense or prosecution lawyers.”
If the proposal was to transform a dense work into something universal, everything indicates that the film can follow the path of other successes of the genre, and win over not only fans of spiritualism, but anyone looking for a good story with soul.
