The general director of , Andrei Rodrigues, stated this Wednesday (22) that he withdrew the credentials of an American immigration agent who worked in coordinating the sector in Brazil.
The action was in retaliation for the attitude of the government, which operated in the US immigration system.
As Andrei stated in an interview with Globonews, the blockade of the PF data system against the American server will last until the reason that led the USA to take action against the Brazilian agent is clarified.
“This North American police officer, who until then worked within one of our PF units, no longer has access to some databases that we provided for these cooperations, just as our server there in Miami had,” he said.
The Brazilian official would be delegate Marcelo Ivo de Carvalho, who works in Miami. He was involved in the case by ICE, the US immigration agency.
Andrei also stated that, to date, the PF has not received any official communication about what happened to Marcelo Ivo and that he himself ordered his return to the unit where he works.
“Upon arriving at work, the Brazilian police officer was denied access to the system. Therefore, I understood that it would be more prudent to send him back to Brazil,” he declared.
The head of the PF also considered “laughable” the Trump administration’s allegation that the official had acted to manipulate the immigration system and “circumvent both formal extradition requests and prolong political witch hunts in” American territory.
“It is not possible to imagine that a police officer is in the USA to deceive American agencies and deceive a process that the agency he is assigned to produces”, he declared.
After Ramagem’s arrest, on the 13th, the PF stated that there was a joint action between the USA and Brazil.
Former deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (-SP) said at the time that the arrest by the immigration service was motivated by a .
Marcelo Ivo was appointed, in March 2023, to serve as a liaison officer with ICE (Immigration and Customs Service), in Miami. This type of mission for Brazilian federal police officers has a specific period. In the case of the role with ICE, it was for two years.
The stay of the delegate — who was previously superintendent of the PF in Paraíba — was extended until August 2026, according to an order published in the Official Gazette of the Union.
But, on March 17 of this year, Andrei ordered Marcelo to be replaced by another delegate, Tatiana Torres. The formal exchange, therefore, took place before the episode of Ramagem’s arrest.
The former federal deputy for PL-RJ was sentenced to prison last year in the same action that sent the former president (PL) to jail.
He received a sentence of 16 years and one month in prison for participating in an attempted coup d’état at the end of Bolsonaro’s government, in addition to losing his parliamentary mandate. He left Brazil last year and is the target of extradition proceedings.
