The measure is a response to the expulsion of a PF delegate in the United States; president says that what was done with Brazil will be done “with them”
The president (PT) congratulated, this Wednesday (April 22, 2026), the director general of the Federal Police, Andrei Rodrigues, for of North American agent in Brazil. The measure is a response to Marcelo Ivo Carvalho, from the United States.
“Congratulations on your position in relation to the American delegate, placing reciprocity. In other words, what they did to us, we will do to them, hoping that they are willing to talk again and things return to normal”declared the president in a video published on X.
The North American government expelled the Brazilian delegate on the grounds that he had done “political persecution” and tempted “manipulating the immigration system to circumvent formal immigration requests” in the case of the former deputy (PL).
Ramagem was on the run from the country after being sentenced by the Federal Supreme Court to 16 years in prison in connection with the attempted coup for the crimes of violent abolition of the Democratic Rule of Law, coup d’état and criminal organization. The 3 crimes were committed before his graduation, when he still held the position of director of Abin (Brazilian Intelligence Agency).
The former deputy was arrested by ICE (United States Immigration and Customs Service) on April 13 of this year and .
Carvalho had worked as a PF liaison officer in Miami since 2023. His role was focused on international cooperation in the area of security. Therefore, he worked with the American Department of Homeland Security, dealing with issues such as immigration and combating terrorism.
The delegate’s initial stay in Miami was 2 years. In March 2025, the mission was extended for another year, until August 2026.
On Tuesday (April 21), Lula had already spoken about after the expulsion of the delegate.
“There is no conversation, that is, we want things to happen in the most correct way possible, but we cannot accept this interference and this abuse of authority that some American characters want to have in relation to Brazil”declared Lula.
