President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) made the Gás do Povo program official as a federal public policy. The measure was published this Thursday (23) in the Official Gazette of the Union.
The measure ensures the formalization of the program as an official and permanent guideline of the State, with a guaranteed budget to remain in force.
Lula’s order mentions that Gás do Povo “is characterized as a federal public policy of interest to the National Energy Policy” because it contributes to the promotion of a fair, safe and inclusive energy transition.
The government also considers that the program addresses energy poverty, promotes the protection of consumer interests, guarantees the supply of LPG throughout the national territory and promotes free competition.
The text also mentions environmental protection and prevention so that public resources do not fall into the hands of criminal factions.
Improvements
The order also provides notes on improvements that must be made so that the policy objectives are achieved. The guidelines must be complied with by EPE (Energy Research Company) within 240 days, which can be extended.
