The cancellation of the US mission, which aimed to start peace talks with an Iranian delegation, follows Tehran’s categorical denial of any intention to hold a dialogue with the United States.
Tehran’s attitude
Earlier, Iran’s Foreign Ministry had clarified that the presence of the Iranian delegation in Pakistan was solely for the purpose of conducting bilateral contacts with the Pakistani government.
The representative of the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ismail Baghai, through his post on the X platform, clarified that “no meeting between Iran and the US is planned”, stressing that Tehran’s positions would be conveyed exclusively to Pakistani officials.
The completion of the Iranian visit
Following the conclusion of the consultations, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and the accompanying delegation left Pakistan, state media confirmed.
According to government sources in Islamabad, during his contacts, Mr. Araghchi presented the framework of Tehran’s negotiating positions, while stating his country’s strong reservations about the American claims. The head of Iranian diplomacy issued a clear warning, declaring that Tehran is not going to give in to what he described as “maximalist demands” from the United States.
