PSOL criticizes Lira and wants a vote on Brazão’s impeachment – 12/24/2024 – Panel

Parliamentarians criticized the fact that the president of the Chamber, (-AL), did not take to the plenary of the House the request for the impeachment of the deputy (no party-RJ), accused of being one of the masterminds.

In August, . The next step was to take the topic to a plenary vote, which has the final say and may or may not follow the board’s recommendation. In April, the .

Now, PSOL deputies say it is necessary to demand that Lira’s successor forward the process.

The favorite to assume the presidency is the leader of the Republicans, (PB), . Despite this, PSOL announced that it will have a candidate: ).

To the Panel, the psolist says he will take the issue to the Chamber plenary if he is elected. “Lira was playing the entire time to promote a majority around the name he indicated. He makes constant nods to the extreme right and within this context may be the explanation for not having taken Chiquinho Brazão’s impeachment to the House’s plenary”, he says .

In private conversations, Lira minimizes the issue by saying that sensitive issues like this cannot be processed quickly. In the parliamentarian’s opinion, this matter should be resolved next year.

Deputy Chico Alencar (PSOL-RJ) classifies as “Lira’s inaction” not having guided the impeachment process and states that this is “terrible for ethics in politics and for the image of the House itself”. He says the party will demand from the next president that the Brazão case be debated.

“It is very absurd to see that Arthur Lira ended the legislative year without putting the revocation of Brazão to a vote. It took six years to wait for justice and the parliament was not able to quickly hold the leader responsible”, says Talíria Petrone (PSOL-RJ ).

Representative Sâmia Bonfim says that Brazão continues to receive a salary from the Chamber, has a cabinet structure and team that are “fully functioning”, even after being arrested.

“This shows that Lira prioritizes allies in respect for Marielle’s memory and for justice. We hope that the next president breaks this cycle of disrespect and advocates Brazão’s impeachment”, says Sâmia.

The national president of the party, Paula Coradi says that parliament needs to respond “to this political and heinous crime”. “Parliament cannot tolerate in its ranks the person behind such a barbaric crime.”
