Sudden lateral and vertical movements of the cars. Passengers holding on as best they can to avoid falling. Incandescent splinters passing by the carriage windows. The Railway Accident Investigation Commission (CIAF) has sent to the judge investigating a report in which, after exhaustively analyzing the images recorded by the cameras installed inside the Iryo train, one of the two accident trains, it maintains that the “cause” of the derailment of this convoy and its subsequent collision with the Alvia was due to “the existence of a rail break” on the Madrid-Seville high-speed line. The document thus reinforces what has been the case almost since the beginning of the investigation, since it also rules out that the videos reveal the existence of “anomalies in any of the two trains involved before the second 19:43:33,” the moment in which the derailment occurred.
The Civil Guard warns the judge that it does not have the capacity to analyze the black boxes
Apart from the CIAF report, the Civil Guard has presented a letter to the judge of Montoro in which it warns that its crime laboratories do not have the necessary computer applications to download the data contained in the black boxes of the trains nor do they have the "sufficient technical knowledge for its interpretation". The agents thus respond to the head of the court, who on April 13 had asked them to provide the data and recordings housed in the black boxes or to inform her if they had difficulties to "take appropriate measures".
In another resolution, the judge, at the request of the armed institute, demands that Adif clarify within a period of five days whether the elements of the road installed at kilometers 316 and 320 on the Madrid-Seville route were "new installation or recycled". In addition, it requires the company to provide traceability and certification information that affects the rails, ballast and sleepers.
Likewise, the head of the court rules out asking the Emergency Service 112 of Andalusia for the recordings related to the accident, as proposed by Renfe. In his opinion, "for now" does not see it pertinent to make such a request to "not be of interest for the investigation of the case".
