Brazil recorded the creation of 228,208 jobs with a formal contract signed in March, the Ministry of Labor and Employment reported this Wednesday (April 29, 2026). The statistics are from the General Register of Employed and Unemployed.
The balance was the result of 2,526,660 admissions and 2,298,452 dismissals in the period.
Projections by financial agents indicated that the balance of formal jobs would be 255 thousand in March. The result was below estimates.
The Brazilian job market continues to show signs of slowing down. the country had created 268,384 formal vacancies. Therefore, there was a 15% drop in job openings in March.

The stock of formal jobs in Brazil rose to 49.08 million in March. It was 48.9 million in February and 47.9 million in the same month of 2025.
In 12 months, the number of formal jobs increased by 2.34%.
SECTORS
The service sector was the one that hired the most in March, with 152,391 vacanciesin the unadjusted data.

UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE
In March, there were 753.9 thousand applications for unemployment insurance, well above the 638.7 thousand requested in February 2026. In March 2025, there were 671.3 thousand.
