The World Cup album has the power to awaken unforgettable memoriesand that was exactly what the Convoca CNN team revisited in a special chat. From the 1994 stickers to the unique atmosphere of the 2010 World Cup, each edition contains stories that transcend football and connect deeply with the lives of those who lived them.
The debate brought together Jairo Nascimento, Raul Moura, Ana Cristina Schwambach and Nathalia Fiuza, from radio Itatiaia, who shared their most memorable memories of different editions of the tournament.
1994 Cup
Jairo Nascimento revealed that he carries it with the most affection. “The World Cup that moves me most is the first one that I have that clear memory of as a child, which was the 94 World Cup,” he said.
He recalled with emotion the Brazilian title won on penalties in the final, highlighting that it was the first time he saw Brazil become champion. “Just watching it makes you want to cry,” he said while leafing through a book that brings together all the World Cup albums, brought by Raul Moura to the program.
2006 and 2010: the World Cups that made an impact
Nathalia Fiuza chose the 2006 World Cup as the most memorable in her memory. She said that, although she has memories of — especially the family celebrations, with the barbecue lit at 8 am due to the time difference —, it was in 2006 that she followed the games more closely, glued to the television while the house was decorated.
“The one in 2006 marked me because it was the first,” he declared. Nathalia also highlighted that she has good memories of the 2010 World Cup, held in Africa, due to the unique geographical context of the tournament.
Ana Cristina Schwambach, in turn, opted for the 2010 World Cup. She explained that, despite remembering the 2006 edition, the memory associated with that World Cup is negative: the elimination of Brazil, which made her sister cry profusely.
“So I’ll stick with 2010, guys. 2010, Waka Waka, vuvuzela”, she said, referring to the tournament’s theme song and the instrument symbol of the World Cup in South Africa. She also commented on the playing style of Spain, champions of that edition, which she considered “regrettable”, revealing that she supported the Netherlands in the final.
2014 Cup
Raul Moura chose , held in Brazil, as the most special for him.
“I wish I was older so I could have enjoyed it better, but I managed to go to games. It was really good,” he commented.
Despite recognizing Brazil’s negative result in the tournament, Raul kept the edition as his favorite for emotional reasons.
