Life sometimes writes very sad stories. Despite the struggle with serious diagnoses, many people do not give up and try to live life to the fullest. Judit Horváth, whom Slovakia got to know thanks to the show Shopping Maniacs on JOJ TV, also had such a lifestyle. She was 47 years old when the show was filmed in 2023.
Judit went shopping with her son Max as part of the TV program on Friday. Judit wore a wig all week, but took it off during the presentation of her wardrobe. The participant of the show talked about the cruel diagnosis. “I am currently in a social facility in Trsticie, as I am an oncology patient. My diagnosis is the fourth stage of breast cancer, metastases throughout the skeleton,” she described her health condition.
Her mother also fought cancer. “That’s when I found out, the week before I was 45 years old. It was terrible. Because my mother died when she was 49. I didn’t want to. That’s why I’m fighting, because of my son,” she said with tears in her eyes. Experts did not give her much hope. “Doctors gave me a maximum of ten days at first. Then, when the ten days had passed, they said maybe a few months. But when I live, I will be a bedridden patient, I will be diapered and they will give me food. I will not be alone. And I proved them wrong,” she declared with strong words.
Due to her health condition, her life changed drastically. “I used to shop a lot, but in the current situation I can’t afford it that much. So I have very good friends who help me with that. They either give me some things or we go to the thrift store,” she described good relations with her loved ones.
She was forced to go to hospice. “I currently live in a social facility in Trsticie. Actually, my father took care of me. He helped me from the beginning. But my father also got sick, so we had no choice but that my condition might get worse. We did not know in advance what would happen, so because of that we decided that I would go to the hospice. Because there are more seriously ill people there. So that, if by chance, they can take care of me“, she described the difficult situation in the family.
Her son took it very hard. “My son was nine years old at the time and he didn’t know what was going on. Suddenly mommy is not there, mommy is in the hospital. He didn’t understand, but I always told him: “Don’t worry, mommy will be here.” He actually asked me: “Mom, you’re not going to die?” I told him: “No.” We usually meet at least once a week for at least the whole day. And if it’s possible, even more times,” she said words that tear the heart.
In 2024, she returned to the show Shopping Maniacs and had positive news. “I have great results, as I am an oncology patient. I’m making progress. When I was here a few months ago, I was not in such good health. But last month it changed so now it’s very good. I have such good results that I hope it won’t take long and I will be healthy,” she told .
Make-up artist Júlia Švehlová announced the sad news on the social network. “Forever in my heart. Watch over us, angel!” she wrote to a series of joint shots. PHOTO can be found in the gallery.
Regular breast self-examination and more than 60 percent participation of women in screening mammography examinations can reduce breast cancer mortality by up to a third. the experts agreed. They reminded that breast cancer is the most common malignant tumor in women and at the same time the second most common cause of death from cancer.
Early diagnosis is essential for the success of treatment. “If cancer is caught early, we can give patients treatment that can save their lives. If, on the contrary, it is caught in an advanced stage, the treatment itself is more demanding. Unfortunately, it is still true that up to approximately 30 percent of Slovak women with this diagnosis are already diagnosed in advanced stages of breast cancer“, noted oncologist Peter Chvalný working at OÚSA.
The risk of developing cancer increases significantly with a long-term unhealthy lifestyle. The most important risk factors include: smoking, unhealthy diet, lack of exercise or excessive alcohol consumption. This was pointed out by the Regional Office of Public Health (RÚVZ) in Bratislava.
As he added, a combination of several factors, including overweight and obesity, genetic predispositions or environmental influences, contribute to the development of oncological diseases. The action of some viruses and infections, as well as contact with harmful chemical substances or radiation, also play an important role.
“In Slovakia, as in other countries, the number of oncological diseases is gradually increasing. Experts point out that the majority of cancer cases arise as a result of lifestyle and external influences that we can influence to a large extent. For this reason, prevention has an irreplaceable place in the fight against this disease,” the experts emphasized.
They reminded that although cancer occurs more often in middle-aged and older people, prevention is important at every stage of life. “Adopting healthy eating habits, regular exercise and avoiding harmful substances have a positive effect on health from childhood. Vaccination against certain viruses also plays an important role, which can reduce the risk of certain oncological diseases, for example liver or cervical cancer” added RÚVZ.
