On May 1, Robert Fico asked the stars from social networks: Not everyone can be an influencer and smile for the camera!

  • Robert Fico declared the need for greater respect and esteem for working people.
  • He emphasized that the state could not exist without workers creating values.
  • He promised that the government will not take decisions that weaken the position of employees.
  • He describes the EU as an organization in a deep crisis requiring fundamental changes.

Elementary decency and respect must be shown to working people. In his speech at the May Day celebrations as part of the Day of Social Democracy in Bánovce nad Bebravou, he said Prime Minister of the SR Robert Fico (Direction-SD). According to him, people in Slovakia need to be reminded more about the contribution of workers to national wealth.

“Without the people who work on the construction sites, on the highways and who create values, this country could not exist. On the contrary, we need to remind much more of the contribution of these people when it comes to the creation of national wealth. Not everyone can be an influencer and smile for the camera. We also need people who will simply do something in this country. Great honor and respect to everyone who works.” declared Fico.

He recalled that many important steps have been taken in the past in the area of labor law, including the amendment of the Labor Code, the improvement of collective bargaining and the increase of the minimum wage. “I want to promise that we will not take any decisions that should threaten the employment status of employees. We will do everything to return the retirement age to the Constitution of the Slovak Republic, which was removed from the constitution by the previous government coalition.” remarked Fico.

According to him, the first day of May is also associated with peace. He urged people not to take it for granted that they wake up in the morning and have hot water, can buy food or fuel. “Let’s not take it for granted that we are a safe country. Try to go for a walk around the city in the evening in Brussels – I do not recommend it. “Slovakia is a peaceful and safe country, and we must maintain these two basic characteristics at all costs,” emphasized the Prime Minister.

He also commented on the 22nd anniversary of Slovakia’s entry into the European Union (EU), which falls on the first day of May. “The fact is that the Union is in a deep crisis today and we have to be part of the changes that will sweep through the EU like a tsunami, whether the EU wants it or not. But we will only be part of these changes if we make a sovereign Slovak foreign policy oriented towards all four world parties,” added Fico.
