Consulting the Income Tax declaration is one of the most important steps for those who have submitted their income tax declaration and want to follow the process until the refund or eventual payment. Nowadays, this monitoring can be done through the Finance Portal, without the need for in-person trips to services.
After sending the declaration, the taxpayer can check online whether the document has already been received, whether it is being validated, whether there are any discrepancies or whether the assessment has already been processed. It is also possible to download receipts and, when available, consult the settlement note, according to .
How to access the Finance Portal
According to DECO PROteste, there are three main forms of authentication on the Finance Portal to check the status of the Income Tax declaration. Access can be done with CPF and password, through the Digital Mobile Key or with the Citizen Card, using the respective PIN and a card reader.
After entering the portal, the taxpayer must access the Income Tax area and choose the option “Consult declaration”. In this area, you can search for the desired statement using the “Year” field, selecting the year in question or one of the last five years available.
By clicking on “See details”, it is possible to consult information about the status of the declaration, as well as the amount to be paid or received. If it is already available, the taxpayer can also download the assessment note.
How to obtain proof of declaration
To obtain a receipt, you must enter the IRS menu and select the “Get receipts” option. If you are not already within the area dedicated to the IRS, you may need to follow some additional steps to reach the desired document.
This proof can be useful in several situations, namely for banking processes, support requests, rentals, applications or simple personal files. Therefore, it is advisable to keep a copy after the return is filed.
What does “Received, awaiting validation” mean?
After submitting the declaration, the first usual status is “Received, awaiting validation”. This means that the Tax Authority (AT) has received the declaration and that the central services are checking for errors or inconsistencies, say the sources cited above.
This validation may take more or less time depending on the number and type of attachments included in the declaration. Declarations delivered in the first few days of the deadline may also be delayed due to possible failures or adjustments in the system.
By law, the Federal Revenue Service has until July 31st to complete the Income Tax calculation, as long as the declaration has been submitted within the legal deadline, that is, by June 30th, and does not present any discrepancies. Still, many refunds are typically paid before this date.
Clear declaration and settlement processed
When the declaration becomes “Correct”, it means that no central errors were detected after validation. At this stage, the process progresses to settlement, after which the “Settlement Processed” status appears. At this point, the accounts have already been prepared by Finance. If there is a right to a refund and there are no discrepancies or tax debts, the process can proceed to “Refund Issued”.
However, if the taxpayer has tax debts, the refund amount can be used to deduct these missing amounts. Only after this situation has been regularized can payment be made to the taxpayer, if there is still an amount to be received.
Refund issued, payment confirmed or notification issued
When there is a refund and there are no problems with the statement, the next status may be “Payment Confirmed”. This is the moment when the taxpayer knows that the amount was effectively paid by the Federal Revenue Service, which has until August 31st to return the Income Tax, whenever a refund is due.
If, instead of receiving it, the taxpayer has tax to pay, he must receive a notification to regularize the amount due. In this case, when consulting the declaration, the status “Notification Issued” may appear.
What happens when there are disagreements
A declaration with anomalies arises when the Federal Revenue Service detects a difference between the data declared by the taxpayer and the information that appears in its databases. This situation prevents normal validation of the declaration.
When this happens, the taxpayer receives an alert indicating “Disagreement”. The information can be consulted on the Finance Portal, searching for “IRS discrepancies” in the portal’s search engine.
In this area, you can see a summary of the central errors detected. By clicking on “+ info”, the taxpayer can consult the origin of the discrepancy, the status of the process and the recommended way to resolve the situation. The deadline to correct the discrepancy is 30 days. If nothing is done, the declaration may be considered null and void.
How to resolve a discrepancy in Income Tax
DECO PROteste explains that there are two main ways to resolve this type of situation. The first is to send a justification through the Finance Portal, in the disagreements area, writing an explanation and attaching documents that support the taxpayer’s position.
To ensure that you receive a response from the services, you must confirm that you authorized the sending of emails in the “Contact details Portal das Finanças” option. If in doubt, the taxpayer can use e-Balcão or contact the number 217 206 707, between 9am and 7pm.
The second option is to file a replacement return if you have detected an oversight or omission. If this replacement is made within the legal deadline, there is no fine. It is also possible to correct a declaration that presented central validation errors, according to Notícias ao Minuto.
When the replacement occurs without problems, the system assumes the status “Declaration Replaced”. If the disagreement is resolved, the status changes to “Situation Regularized”. In any case, the taxpayer must enter the Income Tax area and select “Submit declaration”.
After justifying or replacing the declaration, the process can continue to be monitored in the disagreements area of the Finance Portal. This consultation allows you to understand whether the dispute with the Tax Authorities has already been analyzed, whether it is still pending or whether the situation has been definitively regularized.
