Government rules out new support for fuels and only maintains measures for gas

The Government withdraws new support for fuels. The Minister of Energy went to Parliament and justified the executive’s decision based on the arguments of several economists, including Mário Centeno, who, when he was Governor of the Bank of Portugal, said that lowering VAT would have no practical effect.

Support was different across Europe. Here, the comparison with Spain was immediate. The Spanish Prime Minister reduced VAT and the Portuguese Government reduced ISP.

Gas measures remain

Regarding gas, the Executive maintains support of R$25 for the cylinder in solidarity with the most vulnerable and refuses to set prices.

For now, there are no further measures, but they could emerge if the situation worsens. Maria da Graça Carvalho He took advantage of the audition to make an announcement.

A goal for almost a decade, at a time when the country depends on fossil fuels for almost everything, and the energy crisis proved this.
