Voters have until the end of the deadline to request enlistment, transfer domicile or regularize their situation on the TSE website
The deadline for obtaining or regularizing your voter registration card for the 2026 elections ends on Wednesday (May 6, 2026). To find out if there are pending issues with the Electoral Court, you can check the page, select “Electoral Status” and enter your CPF. On the same page, in the “Self-service” field, it is also possible to request a voter registration card for the first time.
The communications advisor for TRE-DF (Regional Electoral Court of the Federal District), Guilherme Alves, details what else can be done until then:
“Until May 6th, voters can request electoral registration, which is the first document; they can transfer their electoral domicile, update their registration data and regularize their electoral situation — in the case of canceled or suspended registrations and also registrations that still lack biometrics. After that date, the electoral registration will be closed so that we can then start organizing the elections”, said Alves.
The advisor explains what happens to those who do not regularize their electoral situation:
“He may be prevented from voting in the 2026 elections and may also be subject to some legal restrictions, such as, for example, issuing a passport, he may be prevented from taking office in public office, renewing his enrollment in a public educational institution and obtaining a certificate of electoral discharge. In addition, there are some other consequences that are provided for in legislation”, stated the TRE-DF communications advisor.
Guilherme Alves reminds us for whom voting is optional and for whom it is mandatory: “Enlistment and voting are mandatory for literate people between 18 and 70 years of age. Voting is optional for young people aged 16 and 17, for people over 70 years of age and also for illiterate people”.
The Electoral Court also warns that anyone who turns 18 between the 1st and 2nd round —which will be on the 4th and 25th of October— is obliged to vote in the 2nd round, that is, they have to get their title. And anyone who is 15 years old now, but will be 16 on voting days, can also request the document if they want to vote.
Another important point: voting in transit, which allows voters to vote temporarily in a municipality different from the one registered in the electoral register.
In this case, the deadline for requests does not end on May 6, as advisor Guilherme Alves explains: “There is a specific calendar for this, so it does not end with the closing of voter registration. The deadline for registering to vote in transit this year, for the 2026 elections, is from July 20th to August 20th, for both the 1st and 2nd rounds, or for both rounds.”
Some requests and pending issues that are resolved with the Electoral Court, such as biometrics registration or regularization of canceled titles, require the voter’s mandatory presence at the electoral registry, which may require prior scheduling.
