After the murder of an activist, Trump’s government asserts: There will be tough measures against extremists and cartels

US President Donald Trump signed a new counterterrorism strategy that emphasizes “neutralizing” threats in the Western Hemisphere and paralyzing the activities of drug cartels. Sebastian Gorka, Trump’s adviser on the fight against terrorism, informed about it on Wednesday. TASR informs about it according to a Reuters report.

“Our new counterterrorism strategy prioritizes neutralizing terrorist threats in our hemisphere by crippling cartels until they are unable to import drugs, members, or human trafficking victims into the United States.” said Gorka. According to him, the strategy “is based on the principle that America is our homeland and it must be protected.”

The document focuses on the identification and neutralization of the so-called “violent, secular political groups whose ideology is anti-American, radically pro-gender or anarchist”. As an example, Gorka cited the left-wing Antifa movement, which the Trump administration designated as domestic terrorist organization.

Reuters reminds that after last year’s murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, White House advisers called for a coordinated efforts against left-wing groups accused of inciting violence. Gorka emphasized that the strategy will also target right-wing groups that incite violence.

Trump’s adviser reported that US officials those responsible for the fight against terrorism will meet with international partners on Friday, to see how allies can step up efforts to counter terrorist threats, particularly from Iran and in the Strait of Hormuz. According to him, the goal of the strategy is also global jihadist organizations.
