On Tuesday, May 5, the legendary singer Marika Gombitová was a guest in the popular program Ladies’ Club on the screens of the public STVR. In the opening clip, they summarized the beginnings of her career in a few minutes, but her too greatest achievements. A major turning point in her life was a car accident that left her wheelchair-bound. Despite this, she did not give up and continues to devote herself to music.
In an interview with moderator Iveta Malachovská, she took stock of her life. The meeting with Modus group leader Janko Lehotský at the time when she was not accepted to the conservatory was fateful for her. “One of my most fateful meetings with Janko Lehotský,” she said about the beginning of her singing career.
She remembered the period of concerts with the group Modus. “Beautiful, we had a lot of energy and most of all we wanted to. We wanted to do quality work for people so that they would have joy and an experience, an emotion from it,” she was talking about the fans. Perhaps the singer’s greatest success was when she won the gold main prize at the International Intervízie Festival in Sopot, Poland, in 1980.
Gombitová went to bed and had no idea that she had won. “There was a knock on my door at night. So they came to tell me that I had won it. I couldn’t believe it. But I was incredibly happy. There was a party downstairs at the reception, in a bar. So we had a little drink there, because the next day the winners were singing, so I needed to sleep and my vocal cords had to rest. I have very fond memories of Sopot. I was just sad that I went there completely alone, without any colleagues“, she recalled.
Gombitová will celebrate her 70th birthday in September, 50 of which she has been on stage. She is still an active singer and is planning more concerts for her fans. The Women’s Club team prepared a beautiful bouquet of red roses for her on this occasion.
“We are one of those who want to congratulate you in advance, so we will congratulate you in a moment, but before that I want to thank you very much. I want to tell you that I have great respect for you for our viewers and our listeners in this country, which is demanding and which is sometimes a bit selfish, at least people to each other” Malachovská said at the beginning.
“All your life you are very selfless, you are kind, you are one fantastic person who has an open heart for many and I really appreciate that you have come among us, among us girls from the Women’s Club, who we all admire and like you very much. It was already obvious at a glance that Gombit was very moved. She then dedicated strong words to her favorite presenter on the social network. “I had a nice interview with Ivetka Malachovská at the Ladies’ Club. I regularly watch Women’s Club and I felt very comfortable not only in front of the screen, but also in the studio“, the singer revealed about herself and continued.
“I’ve known Ivetka for a long time, we also remembered our conversations from the time of Studia Kontakt. That’s why I didn’t hesitate for a moment to accept her invitation. I believe that you also enjoyed this conversation.” she told her fans.
