A buffet-style sushi restaurant in Spain made news after announcing a new rule to prevent excesses at the table. The case involves customers who, according to the establishment itself, had eaten until they felt sick, forcing the team to deal with episodes of vomiting on tables and bathrooms.
The case took place at Sushi Toro, a restaurant located in Gelves, in the Seville area, which operates in an à la carte sushi buffet format.
The measure was communicated on the establishment’s own social networks, after, according to management, repeated situations of customers continually ordering food and ending up vomiting inside the space, according to the Spanish newspaper.
Restaurant talks about repeated problem
In the message published by Sushi Toro, the restaurant explains that, in recent months, it had “many customers” who ordered non-stop and ate “until they burst”, even to the point of vomiting. The establishment adds that there were incidents both at the tables and in the bathrooms, which led to difficulties with hygiene and the functioning of the service.
Faced with this situation, management decided to apply a supplement associated with cleaning when a customer vomits due to eating too much. According to the Spanish press, the notice was also placed in the restaurant itself, indicating that, if a customer vomits due to excessive consumption, the space reserves the right to charge an additional amount for cleaning.
Measure aims to protect hygiene and other customers
The restaurant justifies the decision with the need to keep the space clean and ensure that service is not adversely affected for other customers. In the same communication, the team asks diners for collaboration and leaves a simple piece of advice: only order what they can eat.
The measure sparked debate on social media, as it is unusual, but appears in a common context in many buffets: the balance between the fixed price, the freedom to order several dishes and the responsibility not to waste or overconsume.
How much does it cost to eat at Sushi Toro?
According to the buffet menu available at the restaurant, prices are presented in euros, as it is an establishment in Spain. Lunch from Monday to Thursday, on non-festive days, costs R$ 16.90.
For dinner, from Monday to Friday, also on non-festive days, the price is 22.90 euros. On weekends, holidays and the day before holidays, the buffet costs R$ 23.90.
Sushi Toro presents itself as an à la carte sushi buffet, with more than 200 dishes and an area of more than 1,500 square meters, according to information available on the restaurant’s official profile on social media.
The offer includes several sushi options and Asian-inspired dishes, in a model in which customers place orders at the table, but within the rules defined by the establishment. The new fee therefore appears as an attempt to curb abuses and preserve the restaurant’s conditions.
