On Tuesday there will be an honor that has been causing a stir in (social) science circles for several days: the sociologist Alexander Bogner, who works at the Institute for Technology Assessment at the OeAW, will be awarded the Prize for Academic Freedom from the Academic Freedom Network. It is less the award winner himself who is criticized: Alexander Bogner is an award-winning sociologist, was President of the Austrian Society for Sociology from 2019 to 2025 and, among other things, was responsible for the critical and widely praised report on the Corona pandemic. The protest is primarily directed against the Academic Freedom Network, which awards the prize, and its sometimes controversial members and positions.
