The president of the (Federal Supreme Court) and the CNJ (National Council of Justice), said this Monday (11) that the Judiciary must move away from “political calculations” and “immoderate ambition”.

The minister defended “redefining the role” of the judiciary and the Judiciary. To achieve this objective, said Fachin, it is necessary to find the “path that moves away from political calculations and excessive ambition”.

“I believe that it is indeed a time to give new meaning to the role of the judiciary and the Judiciary, in what we can designate as the path that moves away from political calculations and excessive ambition. Anyone who does not act in this way cannot be called a magistrate”, said Fachin.

“The law must be given what is the law. Politics must be given what is the policy,” said Fachin. For the minister, the Judiciary cannot make calculations that are outside the scope of law. “The Judiciary only makes one calculation, which is the calculation within the law and within the implementation of Justice”, he stated.

The statements were made to an audience of members of the Judiciary, during a CNJ event. The minister gave an opening speech at the first preparatory meeting for the 20th National Meeting of the Judiciary.

Fachin also defended a “major transformation” in the Judiciary. The minister assesses that it is necessary to use difficulties and “unmeasured attacks” to transform them into correct responses to what is demanded of Justice.

The minister’s speeches come amid an image crisis experienced by the STF. The court has been subject to public questioning following the revelation of the Master scandal.
