“The four mine workers, who were trapped (…) in Las Quintas, in the Cucunuva community, were found dead,” Jorge Emilio Rey, the prefect of Cudnamarca, whose capital is Bogotá, said via X.
He had earlier reported that the four workers were trapped due to an explosion on Saturday.
They were in a 500-meter-deep tunnel, local media reported.
Explosions are a common occurrence in mines and mines in Colombia
Accidents in mines and mining are frequent in this region of Colombia and are usually attributed to insufficient ventilation in the galleries, especially those that operate illegally or with rudimentary means.
Last Monday, an explosion in another coal mine, and in this case at great depth, in the municipality of Soutatoussa, also in Kudinamarka, claimed the lives of nine workers. Six of their colleagues survived.
Another six workers were killed in February, due to an explosion at an illegal coal mine in Ouacheta, in the same municipality of Soutatausa.
