The exact cause of the loss of the Ukrainian fighter plane is not known, but according to the DPA agency, its crash coincided with the launch of more than 100 Russian drones into Ukraine. It also uses fighter jets to shoot down drones.
“We confirm the loss of the aircraft, but the Ukrainian pilot ejected successfully, contacted the rescue team and was quickly transported to the hospital for examination and the provision of the necessary assistance,” the Ukrainian Air Force said, adding that the cause and circumstances of the incident were being investigated.
Last week, a Ukrainian Sukhoi Su-24 tactical bomber crashed in the Khmelnytsky region in western Ukraine. The pilot and the second crew member died in the accident. Ukraine has been defending itself against the Russian invasion since February 2022 and is currently subjected to large-scale drone attacks on an almost daily basis. In retaliation, it strikes infrastructure and energy facilities in Russia.
