The new Prime Minister Magyar took power in Hungary. Orbán’s era is over, the cabinet promises regime change

The new Hungarian government of Péter Magyar was sworn in and definitively ended the era of the fifth Orbán government. Four key ministries received veto power in the cabinet.

The new Hungarian government led by Prime Minister Péter Magyar was sworn in at the National Assembly on Tuesday. Thus, the mandate of Viktor Orbán’s fifth government has ended, reports the TASR correspondent in Budapest.

The session of the parliament had only one item on the agenda, the swearing in of members of the new cabinet. Magyar introduced the ministers of his government to the deputies.

Four key ministries

At the same time, the prime minister announced that four ministries will have a key role in the “regime change” he announced, and therefore their heads will be given veto power within the cabinet. This applies to the departments of finance, health, education and children’s affairs and justice.

The vg.hu server stated that in practice they can thus have extremely strong authority in cabinet decisions.

Appointment decrees already taken

The ministers then received their appointment decrees from President Tamás Sulyok in Sándor’s Palace.
