Member of the opposition movement Progressive Slovakia Michal Sabo married his longtime partner Michal Šefčík on Saturday, May 9. Since Slovak legislation does not yet allow same-sex unions, the couple therefore decided to get married across the border in Austria. However, Member States must recognize same-sex marriages concluded in the Union.
The current member of parliament and former manager of stars such as Miro Jaroš and Dominika Mirgová said “yes” in circle of closest family and friends. “The newlyweds wish you a happy Europe Day. M&M,” wrote about the wedding photo on Saturday at the Sabo lunch. You can find it in the gallery. They thus sealed a relationship, an integral part of which are also their two female dogs from the shelter, Daisy and Pena.
He later commented on the life step once more and thanked the fans for their support. “Good people of Instagram, thank you and Miško for the wishes and kind words. We really appreciate them from you.” he stated on Instagram. Even his husband did not hide his gratitude. “THANK YOU for so much love and support that has been pouring in under this photo. We really appreciate it,” he wrote in the margin of a shot from the ceremony.
The couple is experiencing the happiest period, which was met with misunderstanding and critical voices of those for whom this type of union is a thorn in the side. “For those who let their weekend be ruined by the fact that someone sealed their love after more than five years, we do not wish what they wish for us” emphasized the Slovak politician.
He confirmed it in a public statement. “We wish them to find their inner peace, or to find a hobby that will fulfill them, or they could look at those traditional Christian values with which they falsely protect themselves,” indicated that he would not let prejudice spoil the festive moments.
He also reminded the upcoming International day against homophobia, biphobia, transphobia and intersexphobiawhich the world remembers on May 17, and its symbol is brightly colored ribbons. “Pin it too and express solidarity with the LGBTI+ community and support Slovak rainbow organizations,” he challenged his fans.
