Genial/Quaest: Messias’ rejection of the STF divides the opinion of Brazilians

The Genial/Quaest survey released this Wednesday (13) shows a division in the opinion of Brazilians regarding the rejection of the name of the Attorney General of the Union (AGU), Jorge Messias, for the Federal Supreme Court (STF) by the Senate. According to the survey, 38% of those interviewed approved the refusal of the nomination, while 35% disapprove of the decision. Those who don’t know or didn’t respond add up 27%.

The numbers indicate that the evaluation of the vote varies depending on the political identification of the interviewees. Among the group identified as Lulista, 54% disapprove of the rejection of the name and 19% approve. In the Bolsonarist group, 58% approve the Senate veto and 21% disapprove. Among voters who declare themselves independent, the indices point to 32% approval and 32% of disapproval.

The survey also addressed the population’s opinion on the institutional role of voting. To 53% For Brazilians, refusing the name is a right of the Senate. To 27%the act constituted a betrayal of the government. Those who did not know or did not have an opinion represent 20%.

Although there were opinions formed about the vote, the survey shows that the majority of the population was unaware of the decision. The data records that 61% did not know about Messias’ rejection of the STF, against 39% who stated that they were already aware of the case.

Methodology

The Genial/Quaest survey was carried out through 2,004 household interviews, between May 8 and 11, 2026. The estimated margin of error is plus or minus 2 percentage points, with a confidence level of 95%. The survey is registered with the TSE under number BR-03598/2026.
