On Wednesday, the Russian army launched more than 800 drones in attacks against Ukraine from the first minutes of the day, targeting the areas closest to the borders of the NATO alliance. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated this in his post on Facebook early Wednesday evening. According to current information, at least six civilians lost their lives.
Target hits have already been reported from Zakarpattia, Lviv, Volyn, Ivano-Frankivsk and Rivne regions, as well as from other regions. In addition to at least six victims, they also report dozens of injured, including children. According to Zelensky, this is one of the longest lasting Russian massive attacks. He warned the public that the attack continues – more and more drones are entering the airspace of Ukraine.
The Ukrainian leader noted that this massive attack occurred on the day when US President Donald Trump arrived to visit China. “At this difficult geopolitical moment, Russia is clearly trying to spoil the overall political climate and draw attention to its evil – at the expense of Ukrainian lives and Ukrainian infrastructure,” wrote Zelenskyi.
He added that according to the information of the Ukrainian military intelligence, there are after all waves of drone attacks “the launch of missiles against Ukraine is also possible.” The most victims of these attacks are currently being reported from the Rivne region, where three people were killed and four were injured. One person lost their life in the Zaporozhye region and two others in the Kherson region in the south of Ukraine.
Slovak police are also monitoring the security situation on the eastern border of Slovakia in response to Wednesday’s massive Russian attack on western Ukraine. She said in a statement that she is also paying increased attention to internal security and is in contact with other security forces of the state. The border crossings were briefly closed by Ukraine in the afternoon; before 5:00 p.m. the clearance process was resumed in both directions.
