Horror in a popular Italian city: A man rammed his car into people on the sidewalk, reports of injuries!

A driver injured seven people in the northern Italian city of Modena on Saturday when he drove his car onto a sidewalk. He then got out of the vehicle, allegedly holding a knife, said the local mayor, Massimo Mezzetti. TASR informs about it based on the AFP report.

According to the first testimonies, the driver is around 30 years old apparently “purposefully walked onto the sidewalk, crashed into a bicycle, and then rammed head-on into a woman who suffered serious injuries and both legs were bruised.” the mayor told local media and the ANSA news agency. The police said that they have detained the man and that there is no immediate danger, Reuters writes.

“He was seen with a knife in his hand, but he didn’t stab anyone. It looks like he was trying to knock someone down.” said the mayor. The circumstances of the incident are still unclear, he stated. “We need to understand why this act happened. But it was a dramatic event, I’m really shaken. Whatever it was, it was extremely serious. However, if it turns out that it was an attack, it would be even more serious,” said Mezzetti.
