Efforts to end the war between Washington and Tehran are running into deep disagreements. The United States sent Iran a five-point peace proposal, but according to Iranian media, it does not contain any American concessions.
The United States set five key conditions for reaching an agreement to end the war with Tehran, but according to Iranian media, Washington did not make any concessions to Tehran. The AFP agency drew attention to this on Sunday, TASR informs.
- The United States presented Iran with a five-point proposal to end the war.
- Washington demands that Iran operate only one nuclear facility.
- According to the proposal, Iran is supposed to hand over highly enriched uranium to the United States.
- The United States refuses to release frozen Iranian assets or pay reparations.
- Iran insists on the lifting of sanctions, the blockade of ports and the recognition of Hormuz’s sovereignty.
Five-point proposal
Iran’s Fars news agency reported that Washington had sent Tehran a five-point proposal demanding that Iran operate only one nuclear facility in the future and hand over its stockpile of highly enriched uranium to the United States. The US also refuses to release “even a quarter” of Iran’s frozen assets abroad or pay reparations for damage done to Iran during the war that broke out on February 28.
AFP recalls that Iran, on the other hand, demands an end to military operations on all fronts, including the Israeli offensive in Lebanon, as well as an end to the naval blockade of Iranian ports by the US, which has been in place since April 13. At the same time, he called for the lifting of all US sanctions and the release of Iranian assets frozen abroad. “Recognition of Iran’s sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz” is also a key condition.
Arákchi: Iranian officials do not trust the United States
“The United States, which does not offer any concrete concessions, wants to make concessions that it failed to achieve during the war, which will lead to a stalemate in negotiations,” Iran’s Mers news agency said.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Arakchi said on Friday that Tehran had received messages from Washington about its willingness to continue peace negotiations. However, he emphasized that Iranian officials do not trust the United States and will negotiate with them only if they are serious about it.
