Spaniard Álex Márquez, from Ducati-Gresini, victim of a serious fall in the MotoGP Catalunya GP this Sunday (17), suffered two fractures, one of them in the right collarbone, and will undergo surgery this Sunday, the team said.
The Catalan has “a small fracture in the C7 cervical vertebra, which will be re-evaluated next week, and a fracture in the right clavicle, which will be stabilized with a plate. He will be operated on today (Sunday) at the Hospital General de Catalunya”, published the Italian team on its X account.
The crash was impressive, and the Spanish driver tried to reassure fans by publishing a photo on his X account, in which he appears in the hospital bed, with his thumb up and wearing a neck brace: “Everything is under control! Time to undergo surgery tonight, but I couldn’t be in better hands. Thank you all very much for your concern and the messages of affection I’m receiving.”
When he was competing with Pedro Acosta, from KTM, for the lead of the race, Márquez hit his compatriot from behind, who faced a technical problem and suddenly reduced his speed at full acceleration.
The youngest of the Márquez brothers suffered a high-speed crash, and his bike rolled over several times before falling completely destroyed on the track, causing the race to be interrupted.
The front wheel of his bike also hit Fabio Di Giannantonio, on the Ducati-VR46, who was unable to avoid falling.
An hour later, however, the Italian managed to win the Grand Prix, marked by a second consecutive interruption following an accident with Frenchman Johann Zarco, from Honda-LCR.
After X-ray exams that did not indicate fractures, Zarco, one of the veterans of the MotoGP grid, aged 35, was taken to the hospital to undergo a CT scan due to pain in his left leg, his team reported.
