Authorities suspect Jonathan Andic killed his father, billionaire Isak Andic, while hiking on a trail near Barcelona where the Mango founder fell from a cliff.
The son of Mango founder Isak Andic was arrested for suspected of murdering billionaire businessmanalmost two years after his death while on a trail near Barcelona, which shocked the Spanish fashion industry.
Jonathan Andicaged 45, was arrested by the Catalan regional police, the Mossos d’Esquadra, this Tuesday, and is expected to appear before a judge in the neighboring city of Martorell. Authorities confirmed that he is being investigated on suspicion of murdering his father, who died in December 2024 after falling from a height of more than 100 meters in the Serra de Montserrat.
At the time, the incident was widely treated as a tragic accident. Isak Andic, then 71 years old, was hiking with family members, including Jonathan, near the famous caves of Montserrat, on the outskirts of Barcelona, when fell off a cliff. Emergency crews, helicopters and mountain rescue teams were called to the scene, but the Mango founder suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The original investigation into the businessman’s death was closed in January 2025, after a judge had decided that there was no evidence of crime. However, the case was later reopened, leading investigators to examine the cell phones of Jonathan Andic and his sisters, Judith and Sarah Andic.
In a statement released Tuesday, the Andic family confirmed Jonathan’s appearance in court but declined to comment further due to a court gag order surrounding the investigation. “Our collaboration has been and will continue to be total,” said the family, quoted by .
Jonathan Andic has consistently denied any responsibility for his father’s death, maintaining that the fatal fall was accidental. The family has repeatedly expressed confidence in his innocence and promised full cooperation with authorities throughout the investigation.
Isak Andic, a Turkish-born entrepreneur, founded Mango together with his brother Nahman in Barcelona in 1984. Under his leadership, the fashion retailer expanded to almost 3000 stores in 120 countriesbecoming one of the biggest clothing brands in Europe and one of Zara’s main competitors. Forbes estimated its fortune of 4.5 billion dollars at the time of his death.
Following the tragedy, Jonathan Andic was named vice-chairman of Mango and chairman of the family holding company, MNG.
