Extension of sanctions exemption to Russia shows that G7 does not agree on everything

PARIS, May 19 (Reuters) – G7 member countries do not agree ‌on everything, as shown by the extension of the exemption from Russian ‌sanctions, EU economics commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis said on Tuesday, criticizing the extension.

The G7 is a forum for cooperation and ‌discussion between allies with similar ideas, according to Dombrovskis.

“But, well, we’re not always 100% aligned on everything, and this is, unfortunately, one of those topics,” he said in reference to the exemption extension.

However, he praised the joint statement after the G7 meeting and said it was a successful outcome of the meeting of finance ministers and central bank governors.

Dombrovskis said he has received assurances from the United States that European banks will have gradual access to Anthropic’s Mythos AI model, even if the U.S. maintains tight control over it.

‘Because it is obviously important that this model does not fall into the wrong hands,’ he declared.
