BRASILIA, May 21 (Reuters) – It is necessary to convince the National Congress that Brazil needs a new banking resolution law, said this Thursday the director of Supervision at the Central Bank, Ailton Aquino.
Project that updates operating rules for authorities and mechanisms to be used to deal with financial institutions in crisis has been pending in the Legislature since 2019, but has not yet been approved.
At an event promoted by the Brazilian Association of Payment Institutions (Abipag), Aquino also stated that it was necessary to reflect on improvements in the legislation governing payment institutions.
When defending the adjustments, Aquino stated that ‘something is happening’ when a banking supervisor appears in newspaper reports, without directly mentioning the recent episodes of liquidation of Banco Master and other institutions in crisis.
